The Renowned Musician Calls On Support to Get Palestinian Solidarity Song to UK Festive Top Spot.
A charity drive is aiming to launch a traditional song from Palestine to the Christmas number one spot. The effort seeks to provide aid to communities in Gaza while also showcasing Palestinian artistic heritage.
A Possibility for Solidarity and an "Chart Upset"
Renowned figure Brian Eno, who performs on the track, stated that the release called 'Lullaby' represents a moment to stand with Palestinians over the Christmas period. He acknowledged the potential for an unlikely festive coup.
“It would be incredible if that happened, yes,” he said. “I wouldn't be completely disheartened if it doesn't manage to, festive releases are a thing unto themselves.”
Powerful Theme of Freedom and Dignity
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who performs on the reimagining of a cultural piece called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the piece's powerful central theme.
“It occupies a deeply meaningful spot for countless listeners,” Barghouti said. “The message is that I would rather die in dignity than spend my life without freedom. That is the core idea of the song; we desire to exist a respectful existence that we merit as a people.”
Recording Origins and Featured Artists
The song was recorded following a solidarity show held in September. Originally intended to be captured during the live event, the rendition was cut from the show due to scheduling overruns.
The diverse array of performers featured on Lullaby encompasses a group of acclaimed names from the music world. All participated in the benefit event, which successfully generated a substantial amount for charitable causes.
Final Touches and Availability
Lullaby was produced by a group of music creators. The song features a fusion of the traditional Arabic lyrics with freshly written English words.
The team running the project have clarified that their goal is to generate maximum funds for a charitable pot. These proceeds will be distributed to projects in Palestine through an non-profit partner.
“We haven't set a rigid aim,” a figure explained. “We’ll go for the maximum achievable. Of course, the greater the amount, the better. Every penny goes out to the people of Gaza.”
The situation in the region was described as its extreme devastation, with a vast majority of property said to be in ruins or severely impacted.
“Given that reality, a couple of million won't make a massive dent. But I think what does make a difference is first of all making this cause better known and showing that another narrative exists.”
The single 'Lullaby' is launching on Friday. Additionally, a full recording of the charity concert will be made ready to watch on a popular streaming site from mid-December.
