The Red Devils Poised to Secure Germany Striker Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Signing for United

The forward, with six months left on her deal, is known as a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. Having scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for her country. This signing will be seen as a marquee coup for the WSL side.

Her exit from Munich has been anticipated after she appeared to be holding back emotions while thanking the German club’s fans after a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its leading strikers. According to reports, the formalities for the move have now been completed.

Consistent Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Attack

The experienced striker's arrival is expected to provide a major uplift to United’s forward line. Schüller has been remarkably reliable in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • Over seven straight seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Old Trafford

The acquisition of Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when United seem to be gathering momentum.

Their recent performances include securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the mid-season window has seen further business:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since arriving in 2023.

On the midfielder's extension, a senior figure stated: “Miyazawa is now a critical component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”

The new defender, having joined from a club in the NWSL, said: “You can feel how much the club have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
