Citizens have come together around the country to commemorate two years since the Hamas-initiated offensive on October 7th, 2023, as discussions advanced in Egypt over an end to the hostilities in the Gaza Strip.

The attack saw more than 1,200 people losing their lives and 251 others taken away to Gaza as captives. It was the most most fatal day for Jewish people since the Holocaust.

Israel answered by launching a defensive operation in Gaza which has taken over 67,000 people, according to the area's Hamas-administered health ministry. Its statistics are considered accurate by the United Nations and other international bodies.

"The aggressive enemies have struck forcefully, but they have not broken us," the prime minister stated on that day.

He also pledged to "accomplish all the goals of the war: the return of all the abducted, the removal of the Hamas regime and the guarantee that Gaza will never again pose a danger to Israel".

Remembrance Events Across Israel

The Israeli government rescheduled formal remembrance events until 16 October - after the conclusion of the festive season - but events still took place across the country on that day.

A memorial ceremony for the families of Israeli citizens who lost their lives in the Hamas attack was conducted in Tel Aviv. Organized by the affected families, it was aired throughout Israeli TV networks.

A period earlier, a minute's silence was respected around the country.

Ceasefire Talks in Egypt

Meanwhile, Israeli and Hamas negotiating teams gathered in the North African Red Sea resort of the negotiation venue for a follow-up session of third-party negotiations to review the conditions of the proposal.

A senior representative knowledgeable about the negotiations revealed that an evening round of negotiations commenced at evening in Egypt.

The official stated the day's discussions ended without significant progress, due to conflicting views over the suggested Israeli retreat arrangements from Gaza and over assurances Hamas demands to make certain Israel does not recommence fighting after the first phase of the agreement.

He commented that the negotiations are "difficult and have still not deliver any significant progress," but pointed out that mediators are making efforts to narrow the disparities between the both parties.

Essential Issues in Talks

  • A permanent halt to fighting
  • The exchange of the captives still kept by Hamas for inmates from Gaza
  • The withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza
  • Arrangements for relief supplies deliveries
  • Future governance of the region

Public Feeling

In Tel Aviv's Hostages Square that day, 29-year-old Hagar - whose sibling lived through the incident on the outdoor event, where many attendees were lost their lives and dozens more were abducted by Hamas fighters - explained: "Nowhere appears as home any longer and until every captive are released none of us will feel safe."

"After we see everybody home returned, we can feel relief anew. Then we can start to recover," she continued.

Near the prime minister's residence in Jerusalem, people gathered to express their backing for the families of the hostages. Israel reports 48 remain in captivity in Gaza, twenty of whom are considered to be living.

Activist a participant explained: "We must do any agreement necessary for the captives to come back home. But we truly desire promises that we will be secure."

Opinion polls now frequently demonstrate that about the majority of the population want the hostilities to finish in exchange for the freedom of the captives.

Gaza Conditions

At the site of Nova festival, mourners came together to pay their respects.

From there, the sound of Israeli air strikes and artillery could be heard just a brief space away in Gaza, where witnesses reported the severe Israeli shelling continued.

In Gaza City, bombardments were documented in the early hours of that day in the western Tal al-Hawa, Rimal and Nasr areas and in the eastern area of that sector, as well the settlement to the north-west.

"As the dusk falls, the anxiety appears with it," evacuated urban resident a mother, whose 17-year-old son was died by an Israeli bombing earlier, described.

"My family are terrified of the bombings. All the night we are sleeping together, clinging, especially my little child who rests his face on me all night."

"Constantly we look at the reports to see what happened. And I'm concerned that this truce will not be completed and that the fighting will return to us."

Medical Situation

The healthcare center in the urban area announced it had received the corpses of several people by the afternoon, including several who died in an Israeli attack in the southern area.

Nasser hospital in the southern urban center of the city indicated another two fatalities had been transported. One of them was killed by Israeli troops while seeking assistance to the southern area, health workers reported.

The region's health ministry announced twenty-five of the {territ
