The Mighty Nein's Opening Sequence Chose the Incorrect Critical Role Song
The Mighty Nein, the newest animated adventure from Critical Role, unveiled an exciting introductory sequence. It showcases our favorite group of outcasts, misfits, and criminals kicking ass and making their mark, while teasing at several agonizing personal histories for characters such as the voice actor's mage Caleb, and another actor's warlock orc, Fjord.
All in all, the opening looks stunning. However, I felt that something was missing in the song choice.
The intro uses "Welcome to Wildemount", an exceptional composition created by artist the talented musician. This piece from the soundtrack album of the same name, the second release put out by the production company's record label their music brand. It's a great sentimental choice, and I suspect that fans of the second campaign will appreciate its presence.
But for me, The series' intro fails to capture the hype and excitement that was part of the second campaign's live-play sessions. "It's Your Turn", composed by singer-songwriter the artist, became an immediate hit for me when it was initially unveiled in 2015, and it improved further when co-founder the performer wrote words to the tune for the animated Campaign 2 opening in the later year.
Including singing from Ashley Johnson, another performer, Travis Willingham, as well as the writer, the song was memorable and fun. At the time, I hadn't even watched the second campaign at that point, but this was such an earworm that I kept it on my phone. This track that excites you before you start an installment of adventurous fun.
The Mighty Nein's opening with "Welcome to Wildemount" fails to hit the same chords for me. It's a grand composition, but from what I know of this party, I feel that its mood is somewhat mismatched.
Naturally, Critical Role has stated that the animated show will have some changes and variations from the actual-play campaign. An adjusted mood for its opening appears as among these.
This animated adventure will be released on Prime Video from Nov. 19. If you can't wait until then, or want a head start to learn about the characters of the second series, the original episodes are accessible on Spotify and the video site.
