The former Liverpool manager admits coming back to manage Liverpool is plausible in theory.

The German coach, who departed from Liverpool in 2024, has suggested that returning someday is an option. The 58-year-old, after a transformative nine-year spell featuring a European Cup triumph and the Premier League crown for three decades, currently occupies positions as head of global soccer for Red Bull and as an advisor to Germany's league body.

Supporters’ Hopes and His Frank Comments

The club claimed the Premier League under Arne Slot, though countless followers holding him in high esteem would welcome the notion that he may eventually return. During an extensive chat, he explained to his interviewer: “I stated I will never coach another team on English soil. Therefore if then it’s Liverpool...yeah. In theory, it could happen.”

“I’m 58, which suggests the choice could be mine in a few years, I don’t know. Must I choose now? Then I will not coach again. But thank God, no such pressure exists. I'll simply watch what the future brings.”

Conditions for a Comeback

Pressed on the specific conditions would have to unfold to bring him back to management, he confessed he feels no immediate pull toward coming back. “I'm not entirely sure, I love what I do right now,” he commented. “No longing for management; No desire to be during downpours for two-and-a-half or three hours; I'm glad to skip media briefings four times, three times a week or doing numerous chats a week.

“No nostalgia for the changing area in that context, however, dining out with the players talking freely, is pleasant. With many victories so there was often great spirits at the club. I can still hear Van Dijk's laughter in my ear as an instance.”

Commending Arne Slot

He commended of the current boss, praising him for the adjustments that took the title last campaign. Liverpool have lost four in a row across various tournaments after a summer spending spree, yet he dismissed the notion of it representing a slump.

“[Liverpool have] a top-class attacker like Florian Wirtz, doubters will be silenced if you use the wrong words. He’s an incredible talent. [Hugo] Ekitike, excellent performer. They have a strong balanced team. No need for concern regarding the Reds, things will improve.”

Heartfelt Words for Diogo Jota

The manager expressed deep feeling on the loss of Jota, whom he brought in in 2020, and its impact for the team. Jota died tragically in a road accident alongside his brother recently.

“Can you substitute such an individual? It’s not about his footballing ability, his personality mattered. It's hard to picture the dressing room absent his presence. I still cannot speak properly about it. It was an incredible shock for the entire squad too. No one within the club would cite it as an excuse yet it's the reality. You walk in a dressing room which he filled completely. Dealing with that emotionally is difficult. Overwhelming.”
