Slot Maintains He Is Secure and Retains Liverpool's Backing Following PSV Eindhoven Defeat

The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it was natural for questions to be asked about his future following a further heavy defeat against PSV Eindhoven.

Liverpool endured their 9th loss in 12 games, marking the team's worst run since being relegated in the 1953-54 season.

They were taken apart by the Eredivisie champions on a tough evening at their home ground.

“I am feeling safe, I am OK, I've received plenty of support from management,” Slot commented.

“It's important to reverse this trend and secure a win naturally but when you're in a managerial role and underperforming then it's expected that questions are asked.”

He noted, “I accept my situation. It is not the initial instance I’ve been in a difficult position but it's crucial that we changed our fortunes.”

Discussions with The Board

When asked to elaborate on his dialogues with the team officials, the head coach said:

“We talk a lot. They are helpful to the team and to me and those talks happen but they aren't calling me every single minute of the day to say they have faith in me.”

He further stated, “During our regular exchanges I sense the confidence. But I've not talked to them since this defeat yet so we'll see.”

Persistent Problems and Squad Response

The manager lamented known weaknesses from his Liverpool side in their European loss, namely poor finishing and defensive lapses.

Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more direct in his evaluation of the club’s predicament.

“I haven't got the answers. Truthfully, I don’t. I’m saying that to all,” Jones said.

“It is unacceptable. I don’t even have to wait to consider it. I’m past being angry inside. I've reached the stage now where I just don’t have the phrases.”

He continued, “It's difficult because I’m playing for the side I follow. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen this club for years.”

“For many years, I've not seen a Reds side experiencing a spell such as this with outcomes so bad.”

He finished, “However we continue to wear that badge on our shirts. And until that badge is gone, we'll continue to battle.”

“We will attempt to bring this squad return to the top, demonstrate to all again what Liverpool stands for and why it's known as the greatest side in the planet.”

“But right now, we’re in the shit and it must improve.”
