Madeleine McCann's twin siblings, Sean and Amelie, have told the court that their encounters with an accused stalker were deeply upsetting and creepy. They explained feeling anxious and frightened by a woman who insisted she was their long-lost sister.

Relentless Communication Detailed as Scary

Appearing remotely, she described how the defendant, Julia Wandelt, reached out to her multiple times through online platforms and letters. She said the persistence was quite scary since you don’t know what her next move might be.

Communications from the defendant were read in court, in which she recounted memories of being in the family home that she claimed were recalled during hypnotherapy. Amelie testified, It's very upsetting that she’s coming up with these alleged recollections, despite the fact she isn't Maddie.

Altered Images Increased Unease

Jurors learned that the accused had created images of herself and Amelie as young girls, which the prosecution said were generated with ChatGPT. Some of these images were sent through social media, while others were produced physically and enclosed in a mail to her.

She said, It was unpleasant, it caused me to feel very uncomfortable. She had clearly edited the images to make me appear similar to her, which was quite distressing. I knew I didn't resemble that, I knew it had been changed.

Psychological Impact on the Family

Amelie also spoke about the effect of the supposed stalking on her parent, Kate, who gave evidence about being confronted at her residence by Wandelt and her alleged accomplice, a 61-year-old woman.

In my opinion my mother found it the most difficult. She was targeted by the defendant to a greater extent than the rest of us and I think it certainly had a negative effect on her and her mental health, she testified. It’s upsetting when someone’s pleading with you to accept their claims and playing with your emotions, to the point you are doubting your own judgment.

Sibling's Statement on Anxiety and Online Attention

In a witness statement read to the court, Sean McCann stated that for him, he had not been too badly impacted by Wandelt's accused stalking. However he had been upset that she was attracting online attention, with people saying nasty and unfair comments about his mother and father.

In the event that Wandelt was not suffering from a psychological condition and was completely conscious she is not Madeleine, yet makes these claims, that will be very upsetting for me, he said. I am convinced she is my sibling. The reality that the defendant is engaging in this behavior has resulted in a significant amount of stress and I consider it profoundly troubling.
