Wilfried Nancy declared he had no concerns about losing his job, claiming, “We are very near to things turning around,” despite sliding worryingly close to the exit with a comprehensive defeat by Rangers.

A Second-Half Collapse Leads to Old Firm Defeat

The home side were ahead the visitors at the interval but a disastrous second period enabled the Gers to move level on points with the defending league title holders. Nancy, who was appointed from Columbus Crew, has now been in charge for six losses in his last eight matches.

“The board and I are united with the board,” insisted Nancy.

Questioned about his own future, he responded: “I don’t think about it. I think about finding ways to help my team to excel on small moments.

Fan Fury On Display

The fans displayed their anger – aimed at the board and manager – by protesting outside the stadium. Club directors are thought to be considering to bring back Martin O’Neill, who enjoyed a successful interim spell last year, should a change be made.

“Wins and losses [that leads to pressure]. And that’s the situation for the moment. However by saying that’s how it is, that is not a sign that I am a defeatist guy. Not at all. What I mean we are on the cusp, really, really close to turn things around.”

Nancy’s Persistent Belief

He remains focused on the fact the side can perform strongly for 45 minutes at a time. For instance, if not for missed chances they would have been greater than 1-0 up. “The performance had merit aside from the fact that we didn't take more goals,” he said. “I acknowledge that we lost, but it's important to stay objective.

“The standard we had at certain moments was of top quality. That happened. I could not speak so positively if it was untrue. But that’s why, when it comes to wins, I mentioned it's a repeating pattern. Which is why I believe we are nearly there to getting it right. Currently: small things.”

“I saw many, many good things that we did, like today again. The issue now comes down to performing for 90 minutes. My narrative would be different if I didn't believe it. Therefore I am convinced the team can to fix this.”

Röhl’s Cautious Response

The victorious boss played down talk of a serious challenge despite what appeared to be a statement victory. “One match at a time, and we can really build up something here,” he said. “The confidence in the group is immense.”
