Battlefield 6's Relaxed Playlist Ignites Intense Debates Regarding Bots, XP Rewards, and Wait Times

Recently, the game developers introduced a fresh playlist titled Relaxed Breakthrough. To put it simply, this mode resembles the regular Breakthrough format but includes a few notable adjustments:

  • Every squad includes only 8 human participants, with the remaining made up of 32 bots.
  • Actions done by human gamers grant full XP, while bot actions provide lower rewards.
  • Just a pair of locations can be played: Cairo Siege and Empire State.
  • Features like Player tags, accolades, and career stat updates have been turned off.

In short, this mode delivers on its title: it offers a laid-back version of Breakthrough. At face value, you might think there's nothing wrong, as it gives more options for players looking for different ways to enjoy the title. However, gaming history has shown one thing, it is that you can't please everyone. Which is to say, a lot of BF6 fans are upset.

Community Reactions: From Fury to Praise

"Gamers prefer real players. Avoid making the errors of your rivals," reads a response to the mode reveal. "Truly disappointing idea," says another. At the same time, in community forums, a player remarks, "It's unclear where we are going with this game," and another lists everything they believe to be broken in Battlefield 6: "Resolve glitches, address drone issues, fix IVF rockets, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, fix awful hit registration. We don't need this AI-heavy playlist."

On the other hand, for every complaint, some gamers sharing how much they're liking the new mode. "It's enjoyable to warm up, human participants prevent it from being a total farmfest but it's very relaxed," says a forum post. "This subreddit doesn't understand that there are gamers who actually go outside and don't play this game all the time. Allow them to strike a balance," adds another. A response on Twitter explains that as they're "a parent gamer with busy schedules, this is great for me," and another applauds the mode for "avoiding intense competition."

Constructive Concerns and Player Input

Despite the support, there are valid points to criticize the new mode. A few folks have highlighted that it will make wait times even longer for other modes because of the sheer number of playlists currently available. Similarly, some areas already encounter mostly bots in the current modes. It also seems a little backwards that the mode won't start without a minimum number of human gamers, even though it focuses mostly on combat against bots.

Lastly, a major complaints is that Battlefield Portal was meant to offer complete rewards, even against bots, but that was removed when they tried to eliminate XP farming from the mode. So Casual Breakthrough seems like the player base meeting them halfway, according to forum feedback. A different user describes this addition as the developers "making a mistake so hard, I experienced great enjoyment in the initial release, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"

Looking Ahead: Will Changes Occur?

If Battlefield Studios has proven anything to date with the latest installment, it is that they're listening and responding to player input. Assignments being too difficult got fixed very quickly, as did the specific battle pass objectives. Chances are that, if their data indicates this new playlist is underperforming to their expectations, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
