Adult Swim's Top New Show of 2025 Secures a Significant Renewal for an Additional Two Seasons.
In October of last year, the late-night programming block welcomed back its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, later that same month, the channel unveiled a completely new animated series with a distinctly unique vibe. Haha, You Clowns proved to be sweet and soothing, reminiscent of a animated take of a contemplative talk show. At a time often characterized by cynicism, this show's earnestness found an audience and turned it into a surprise hit.
A Significant Investment
On December 18th, Adult Swim made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for two additional seasons. This provides showrunner Joe Cappa a massive runway to further explore the world of the Campbell family. The show follows three well-mannered teenage brothers whose primary trait is their profound affection for their single father, with Cappa voicing for all four key characters.
"My deepest thanks go to the viewers of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and shared it with others," said Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for seasons to come."
Executive Acclaim
Accompanying the news laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "radically heartfelt and oddly captivating." He specifically highlighted the fans who found the show and championed its peculiarly charming style.
"All of you got behind this new show, praised it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Comforting Counterpoint
When it first aired, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a comforting antidote" to other adult animated fare. Viewers found something deeply soothing about following this charming family go about their simple existence.
Previously, creator Joe Cappa stated his goal to evolve comedy past its prevailing cynical streak. He traced this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.
“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we keep returning to,” explained Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we must laugh at something different now. The genre needs to change.”
What Comes Next
With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa may well catalyze that comedic shift. At a minimum, the renewal ensures audiences additional episodes to experience the heartfelt moments of the beloved Campbell clan.
The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. All episodes is currently streaming on HBO Max.
